KATADYN Portable Water Purifiers Featured in 114th National Disaster Prevention Day Exercise｜Supporting Taiwan's Water Supply Resilience
The 2025 National Disaster Prevention Day large-scale earthquake mobilization drill was held in Yilan, with participation from central and local governments, the military, fire departments, medical teams, civilian organizations, telecom operators, and international rescue teams.
Mabugu Outdoor was invited by the Taiwan Disaster Medical Assistance Team (Taiwan DMAT) to showcase KATADYN mobile water treatment equipment and NRG-5 emergency rations, demonstrating how drinking water, medical care, and logistics support each other in the event of a large-scale disaster.

According to public information from the Presidential Office and the National Fire Agency, the drill involved multiple central government ministries, local governments, telecom operators, civilian organizations, and international teams, mobilizing over a thousand people and a large number of vehicles, aircraft, and specialized equipment.
The value of such drills lies in simultaneously testing command, medical care, communications, transportation, supplies, and alternative solutions for infrastructure disruption. Drinking water supply is not an isolated item but a common foundation for medical care, shelter, sanitation, and continued personnel operations.
Integrating Safe Drinking Water and Emergency Rations into a Single Logistics Framework
KATADYN mobile water treatment equipment can provide filtration or water production capabilities of different scales depending on the number of people, water source, and mission requirements. NRG-5 supports energy needs after normal supply disruptions, with its long shelf life, direct edibility, and ease of distribution.
Bringing both together in the same drill demonstrates a complete logistical logic: not only must there be supplies on-site, but also knowledge of how to acquire, treat, store, and distribute them, and how to keep equipment operational when water, electricity, and roads are damaged.
Resilience is not a single piece of equipment, but the ability to ensure continuity.
When tap water, electricity, and transportation are simultaneously damaged, rescue units need to be able to quickly establish treatment processes based on on-site water sources, and also have water storage, distribution, testing, consumables, and personnel training. Equipment is just one part; true resilience comes from the ability of the entire process to continue.
KATADYN Taiwan's understanding of the case: Large-scale disaster water supply must involve equipment grading, personnel training, consumable inventory, and cross-unit coordination during normal times. Through drills, mobile water purification equipment can transform from mere exhibits into a truly continuous capability supporting medical care, shelter, and logistics.
