The German Air Force deploys the Survivor 06 on life rafts used with aircraft such as the Transall and AWACS, and also for helicopter missions with the MH90 and CH53. The German Army Special Forces use it as a backup watermaker for maritime and coastal operations.

Different life rafts may be for 6 or 20 people, and the equipment must be stored for long periods in unheated aircraft areas. According to the original case study, storage temperatures can drop to minus 65 degrees Celsius at higher altitudes, necessitating re-evaluation of general materials, preservation liquids, and tubing.

KATADYN replaced standard materials with a titanium alloy pump body and casing to mitigate saltwater corrosion and the effects of extreme environments on the equipment. For preservation, a specially formulated biocide and Antifrogen antifreeze preservation liquid were used, along with extended silicone tubing, to meet the configuration requirements for life rafts and aircraft.

After design completion, the equipment underwent long-duration extreme environment testing by the German Air Force. The extended handle increases the stroke length, and the leg strap secures the unit and supports one-handed operation. Conspicuous lanyards and clips reduce the risk of the equipment being dropped or lost at sea. Each unit undergoes performance testing under high-pressure conditions, and full inspections and preventive replacement of reverse osmosis membranes are performed according to maintenance cycles.
