Ban Bo Ong is located near the Khao Laem Reservoir, close to the Myanmar border. The village has about 400 households, no roads, electricity, or communication facilities. Residents rely mainly on lake water and rainwater; the original case indicated that local water sources were severely contaminated.

Wang Hin is located in an area near the Laotian border, with about 300 households. Children in the village frequently suffered from diarrhea, and families needed a drinking water treatment method that did not rely on electricity and could be operated daily at home.

The Drip Filter Ceradyn consists of two 10-liter containers (upper and lower) and three ceramic filter elements. After adding raw water to the upper layer, the water passes through the ceramic filter elements by gravity and then flows into the lower container for clean storage. No electricity, pumps, or complex piping are required.

Families fill the upper container 2 to 3 times daily to obtain their daily supply of filtered drinking water. When the flow rate of the ceramic surface decreases due to sediment, it can be scrubbed according to the operating instructions to restore filtration efficiency.

健康改善與後續擴大|Project Outcome

The case documented that approximately two months after the system's implementation, the incidence of diarrhea in both villages almost disappeared. Rotary subsequently planned to extend this approach to more regions, with the original case mentioning a goal of expanding to up to 60 villages.

This outcome resulted from continuous daily use by families, rather than a one-time large-scale project. The equipment operates without electricity or fixed pipelines, allowing filtration to occur where drinking water is truly needed.

When public water and electricity supplies are unstable, household gravity filtration can integrate water treatment directly into daily life.

The results from the two villages also show that equipment must be easy to operate, easy to clean, have sufficient flow, and be continuously manageable locally.

For remote locations, post-disaster shelters, group camps, and community preparedness, key considerations for gravity filtration systems include raw water turbidity, daily consumption, container cleaning, filter element maintenance, and user education. The equipment itself is just the starting point; correct operation ensures a continuous water supply.
